The Catch is a tool that takes a decision you describe and generates an AI-written comparison of your two options. This page explains what happens to what you type in.
The decision you describe, the timeframe and constraint you choose, and any answer you give to the "forcing question" are sent from your browser to a small backend function, which forwards them to Anthropic's API (the company behind the Claude AI model) to generate your result. That's the only third party your decision text is sent to.
If you "sign up" with an email in the app today, that email is stored only in your own browser's local storage — it is not sent to us or saved on any server. Nothing currently happens with it beyond unlocking more free uses in that browser.
Your journal entries (saved decisions and the outcomes you log) are also stored only in your browser's local storage. We don't have a server-side database yet, so we don't have access to your journal, and it won't sync across devices.
We don't sell or share your data with advertisers. We don't use your decision text for anything other than generating your result. Anthropic's standard API terms mean your inputs aren't used to train their models by default.
Because journal and account data lives only in your browser's local storage, it stays until you clear your browser's site data or switch devices — at which point it's simply gone, since nothing is backed up elsewhere yet.
You can stop using The Catch at any time. Clearing your browser's local storage for this site removes your journal, account flag, and pattern profile immediately.
As real accounts, a database, and payments are added, this policy will be rewritten to reflect that — including what a real database stores, how long it's kept, and how to request deletion.
